The Center for Brazilian Studies supports students with travel grants for internships and research in Brazil. Some of our recent grantees include:
Paula Alfonso, School of International and Public Affairs
Internship: U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Western Hemispheric Affairs, Rio de Janeiro
Jeffrey Berger, School of International and Public Affairs
Internship: Grupo de Intitutos, Fundações e Empresas (GIFE), São Paulo
Vanessa Mason, School of Public Health
Internship: Núcleo de Estudos em Políticas Públicas de Saúde Mental, Rio de Janeiro
In addition to funding student travel for internships and research in Brazil, the Center for Brazilian Studies also helps fund a student-led cultural immersion trip to Brazil. In the spring of 2010 for example the Latin American Student Association (LASA) at the School of International and Public Affairs coordinated a trip of 26 students who travelled to Rio de Janeiro over their Spring Break.
During their visit, the students met with Brazilian academics, business leaders, government officials, and local NGO representatives. The students also enjoyed many cultural outings during their trip, such as dance lessons, language instruction, and visits to museums.
