A New Way of Doing Politics: Making Political Activity Appealing

September 18 @ 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Eduardo created Renova BR, an initiative that is focused on select and train new leadership for Brazilian politics. In its first year, the program prepared 117 candidates, out of which 17 were elected.  In total, the candidates prepared by Renova BR received a total of 4.5 million votes during the 2018 election. In 2019 the program is training and supporting 1.400 new leaders. He will be speaking about this experience of shaping the renovation of politicians within the Legislative Power in Brazil. Moreover, Eduardo will touch upon how RenovaBR’s approach can enhance the incentive to participate in politics to a more broader public.

Eduardo Mufarej built his career in private equity and education. He co-founded Tarpon Investimentos, a successful investment venture and was part of the boards of relevant businesses in Brazil, such as Arezzo, BRF, Omega Energia and Abril Educação (renamed Somos).

From 2014 until 2018 Eduardo led the largest investment in k-12 education ever done in Latin America with the acquisition of Abril Educação, which he managed until the sale to Kroton for USD 3.4 billion.

After the sale, he dove into the endeavour of RenovaBR and its accomplishments.

Eduardo is also chairman of the board of the Brazilian Rugby Union and the Yale School of Management.  He is married to Juliana and they have three children.  They all live in São Paulo.
