Back to the Future: What to Expect from NGOs and New Movements in Brazil?

September 21, 2016 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

The Brazil Brown Bag Seminar Series invites you to its discussion entitled, ‘Back to the Future: What to Expect from NGOs and New Movements in Brazil?’ with Lucia Nader, a human rights and civil society organizations expert.

The lecture will cover expectations and challenges for civil society organizations in Brazil, as well as the role of “new” movements. As Ms. Nader puts it, “Even if mired in a deep crisis affecting the three brands of power, Brazil’s civil society still believes in democracy. Recent women and student’s mobilizations show the way into the future.”

Lucia Nader is a human rights and civil society organizations expert. She was an Open Society Foundations Fellow in 2015-16 and Executive Director of Conectas Human Rights from 2011-14. Lucia has a background in International Relations (PUC-SP, Brazil) and a master degree in Political Sciences (Sciences-Po, Paris). She is also a board member of several civil society organizations, including the Fund for Global Human Rights and the International Service for Human Rights.
