Colombia After the Referendum: Is there a Path to Peace?

The University Seminar on Latin America invites you to its next session to be held on Thursday, November 3rd, from 7:00-8:30 pm in Faculty House at Columbia University.  Dr. Virginia Bouvier will discuss “ Colombia After the Referendum: Is There a Path to Peace?”

 

Dr. Bouvier is senior advisor for Peace Processes and head of the Colombia Unit of the United States Institute for Peace, and adjunct professor of political Science at Georgetown University. Dr. Bouvier has been closely engaged with the negotiating process in Colombia throughout the four years of negotiation between the Colombian government and the FARC guerrillas, and has provided ongoing analysis to journalists and scholars through her blog “Colombia Calls”. Her seminar presentation will examine the reasons for the unexpected rejection of the accords in a national plebiscite on October 2nd, and analyze the prospects and possible mechanisms for ending the longest armed conflict in the hemisphere.
