Immigration Reform and Latino Political Mobilization

November 29, 2016 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

The Forum on Migration invites you to a talk titled “Immigration Reform and Latino Political Mobilization” with Silvia Pedraza, Professor of Sociology at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.
Silvia Pedraza traces here the history of immigration laws in the US to highlight what are the circumstances that allowed immigration reform to be successfully passed in the past.  She then argues that despite, or perhaps because, the failure to pass comprehensive immigration reform since 2006, the Latino community has become increasingly mobilized, are now more eager to be new Americans than they ever were in the past and are also more adept at influencing the political system.

Sulzberger Parlor, Barnard Hall 3rd floor
