In the wake of President Obama’s historic visit to Cuba, US Ambassador Jeffrey DeLaurentis will discuss the behind the scenes negotiations that led to the
breakthrough in US-Cuban relations, the results of the President’s visit, and the contested path ahead.

A SIPA alumnus, Ambassador DeLaurentis has been Chief of Mission at the US Embassy in Havana, Cuba, since August 2014. Having served twice previously in Havana and as Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs, he is one of Washington’s most seasoned experts on relations with Latin America. Before his current appointment, Ambassador DeLaurentis served as the US representative to the United Nations Security Council and as Minister Counselor for Political Affairs and Security Council Coordinator at the US Mission to the United Nations.
