Mexico: The End of Democracy as We Know It?

Mexico’s democratic change has being defined by two clear-cut paths: the change of electoral institutions allowing for competitive and fair alternation in power, and a partial but incomplete change of state’s authoritarian structures and procedures. In 2018 a new left-wing and unified government  was elected and is seeking a “historical transformation”, “la cuarta transformación.” In this talk, Dr. Valdés-Ugalde will address the trajectories of these two paths and the current institutional reforms implemented by the new government.
