Olancho: Film Screening

October 26, 2016 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

Please join the Department of Latin American and Iberian Cultures for their screening of the documentary film “Olancho” at Casa Hispánica.

The documentary follows Manuel, a musician from eastern Honduras (the most murderous country in the world) who is exiled from his homeland after a song he writes angers a local drug cartel. Manuel finds himself living in the U.S. as an undocumented immigrant, struggling to survive and re-gain his fame.

“Olancho” participated in the pitch at Hot Docs Forum 2015, DocsDF 2015 in Mexico City, and was Indiewire.com‘s Project of the Year runner-up in 2015. “Olancho” is edited by the acclaimed Chilean editor Andrea Chignoli, whose film “No” (2012) was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language film.”

Co-directors Chris Valdés and Ted Griswold are Columbia alumni. They, along with professor Bruno Bosteels will lead a discussion after the screening.
