Política de drogas y encarcelamiento en América latina

Please join the Center for Mexican Studies for its next Mexican Monday series event titled Política de drogas y encarcelamiento en América latina with Catalina Pérez Correa.

 

Catalina Perez Correa received her Law Degree from the Instituto Teconológico Autónomo de México (ITAM), and her masters and doctorate from the Stanford University Law School. She has also been a visiting scholar at the Georgetown Law Center, a professor of law at the Mexican National University and is currently professor and researcher at the Centro de Investigación y Docencia Económicas (CIDE).

She is an expert on Mexican criminal procedure focusing on the study of criminal justice institutions, prosecution and investigative practices in Mexico. Her research focuses on the study of legal procedures and practices from a sociological and anthropological perspective. She has extensively studied the functioning of the criminal justice system in México; the justifications for and enforcement of criminal punishment (namely prisons), institutional legitimacy, the effect of criminal punishment on legal compliance and drug policy in Latin America. She currently coordinates the Collective for the Study of Law and Drugs (CEDD), a group that regionally studies the impact of current drug policies throughout Latin America.
