Profiles of the Poor: Understanding the Gaps for Financial Inclusion in Brazil

October 5, 2017 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

The Brazil Research Seminar Series invites you to its discussion titled, “Profiles of the Poor: Understanding the Gaps for Financial Inclusion in Brazil ” with Lauro Gonzalez, Professor at FGV-SP Business School.

Previous studies have shown that financial inclusion may have a positive effect to improve welfare. When taking the Brazilian context into account, there has been a relevant expansion in the volume of financial assets, mainly consumption credit but a relevant share of the poor still lack access to proper financial services.

Thes huge population of 120 million people that form the BOP segment in Brazil (C,D,E classes) is often perceived as a homogeneous group. However, household budget organization, attitudes toward the future, consumption behavior and financial education vary considerably within this population. Different profiles demand multiple strategies for financial inclusion.
