The Treatment of Madness in 20th Century Argentina

The Institute of Latin American Studies at Columbia University invites you to its next seminar titled The Treatment of Madness in 20th Century Argentina with Alejandra Golcman.

 

 

Alejandra Golcman has a PhD in Social Science from the National General Sarmiento University-Institute for Economic and Social Development (UNGS-IDES). She is a postdoctoral fellow at CONICET, Argentina. She has participated in research projects in Argentina, European Union and Mexico. She has conducted research stays in Madrid (CSIC), Mexico (UNAM) and New York (Columbia University), and has obtained scholarships such as LASA (Latin American Studies Association), CONICET, Teixidor Trust, INTERCO and PROFOR. She published in prestigious international journals from Colombia, England, Italy, Spain, Argentina and Mexico, and in different languages. Her themes revolve around the history of psychiatry, psychology and psychoanalysis in Argentina, both its theorizations and its concrete practices. She has taught the subject “History of Psychology and Psychoanalysis in Argentina”. She has been a lecturer in different universities in Madrid, Barcelona, Mexico City and Buenos Aires, to name a few. She is a member of the Editorial Committee from the journal Psy Cultures and from 2010 to 2015 she was the Editorial Secretary of the same publication.
