What is happening in Venezuela?

October 15, 2019 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 am

Venezuela today has the highest inflation rate in the world, a mind-boggling 282,972%, or 1,616 times higher than the next highest (Zimbabwe’s 175%). The country’s homicide rate has quintupled in the last two decades; it has become the origin of the world’s largest refugee outflow, and Reporters Without Borders has ranked Venezuela as the country with the least freedom of the press in the Western Hemisphere after Cuba.  Cabot Prize 2019 medalist and New York Times correspondent Boris Muñoz, and members of Armando.Info, a Venezuelan news website awarded a special citation by the Cabot Prize Board for their courageous reporting discuss the origins, present reality, and future options for this humanitarian crisis.
