Center for the Study of Race and Ethnicity

Latina/o Studies is an inquiry into the history, culture and social fabric of Latino populations in the United States. Courses in the program offer students an interdisciplinary perspective on the various Latino/a communities in the country. The curriculum includes courses placing the Latino/a experience in the context of U.S., Caribbean, and Latin American history, discussing the key socioeconomic and political issues facing Latino/as in the United States; and presenting the Latino/a expression in literature, music, and art. It is a concentration that focuses on nationalism, race formation and transnationalism. The curriculum focuses on the articulation of ethnicity, race, class, gender, and nation.
