Maried Rivera Nieves is a Master of Arts candidate in the International Educational Development program, with a concentration in Latin American and Latino Education, at Teachers College, Columbia University. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Studies and Italian from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Maried has experience working as an intern in the Refugee Services department at Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota, an ESL teacher through the Minnesota Literacy Council, and as a special assistant to the president of Re:Gender. She is enjoying her second year in New York City and looking forward to starting her research on her Masters thesis, which will explore Puerto Rican teachers’ experiences in the island’s public education system.
