Born in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico, and based in Las Vegas, Monterrey, Panama, and Costa Rica, Maga Domene is an internationally recognized producer whose focus delves into the fields of dance and performing arts. As a senior ballerina and choreographer, Domene is responsible for bringing international dance competitions to various cities in Mexico and Latin America, with the sole purpose of recruiting the best dancers and allowing them to participate in major competitions in the United States and, more recently, in Europe.

This workshop will touch on the beginnings of Domene’s artistic career and it will segue into how she decided to change the direction of dance in Mexico and Latin America by working side by side with different dance personalities, such as Vickie Sheer, among others, and institutions, such as CONARTE, Dance Educators of America, Sheer Elite Dance Alliance, and the International Dance Alliance. Domene would also talk about how her alliances with these institutions and personalities have allowed Mexican and Latin American multidisciplinary dancers to explore other horizons beyond the countries they were born in.

This conversation will be led and moderated by current Columbia College students Astrid Liden and Deborah Sofia Moreno Ornelas.
