In the last two months, NYC has welcomed thousands of migrants who have arrived on buses from border states. Who are these newcomers, and why have they left home? What specific medical, educational, or other challenges do they face as they build new lives in a new city? What resources do they bring to enrich this city of immigrants?
This teach-in brings together specialists in Venezuelan politics, refugee education, and migrant health, as well as a recently arrived mother of two, to address these questions.
The discussion is designed for service providers interacting with migrant newcomers—health care providers, educators, social workers, advocates—as well as all members of the community who would like to better understand this recent influx.
