Alianza

Founded in 1984, Alianza's mission is to create a stronger Latinx community beyond the boundaries of Columbia University. Alianza is a pan-Latinx undergraduate student organization, and that strives to create a space for underrepresented members of the Latinx community that allows for the celebration and education of our different cultures. They aspire to open up dialogues about multiple aspects of our Latinidad, including the intersection with racial identity. They do so in an effort to promote understanding among the Latinx community and allies through intercultural dialogue, social and cultural events.

ARSA seeks to build community among students with an interest in Argentina, celebrate Argentine cultures and foster connections among students of Argentine background across Columbia's undergraduate and graduate schools. 

Association of Latin American Students

Association of Latin American Students

The Association of Latin American Students was founded in 2022 by graduate students from different programs of Teachers College. The purpose of the organization is to create a network where students born or interested in Latin America have opportunities to foster community and form connections that may last beyond their time at Teachers College. ALAS aims to disseminate Latin American culture and scholarship, as well as to create and maintain partnerships with other Latin American student groups and organizations outside TC, both locally and globally. Furthermore, ALAS seeks to bring issues concerning the Latin American educational context into the broader global debate on education.

Founded in 1997, Mujeres is the only Latinx organization at Barnard College and within the greater Columbia University community that centers Latinx women. Rooted in community care and collective empowerment, Mujeres creates spaces for cultural affirmation, leadership development, and political consciousness for Latinx students and allies. Through advocacy, community-building, and culturally grounded programming, the organization works to uplift diverse Latinx identities and strengthen solidarity across campus.

Brazilian Society (BRS)

The Brazilian Society (BRS) is an undergraduate student group founded in 2019 with the goal of giving the Brazilian community on campus a space to feel represented and to share and celebrate our culture to the wider Columbia community. Its main purpose is to encourage Brazilians and non-Brazilians of the Columbia University community to engage with Brazil, its culture, and its most relevant issues. In light of this, BRS aims to promote a cultural exchange between the campus community and Brazil, as well as to seek to create a space where the on-campus community can discuss and debate a wide range of topics that pertain to Brazil. BRS thus welcomes and invites all members of the Columbia Community to participate in the activities it hosts and organizes.

Chicane Caucus

Established in 1972, Chicane Caucus was originally part of the 1969 Latin American Students Association (LASO) before organizing around a Mexican-American identity. Now, Caucus is involved in uniting students (Undergraduate and Graduate) with events highlighting shared cultural heritage. Some of our biggest events include Bienvenida, Dia De Los Muertos Celebration at the Sundial, our Quinceañerx, and (more recently) end of year Convivio. Additionally, they have established a political education campaign dubbed La Sobremesa, which intends to relay the history of Latine political action and how it ties into current events. They are inclusive to any Latine students at Columbia and welcome all to take part in events!

Coalition of Latinx Scholars (CLS) at Teachers College

Members of the CLS promote awareness and knowledge of academic, social, political, and cultural issues that concern the Latinx community at Teachers College and beyond. They engage in efforts to further an equitable, diverse, just, and progressive education for all, while promoting Pan-Latinx Unity, Community Engagement, and Scholarship since 2001.  The CLS fosters a supportive community of Latinx students, staff, faculty, administrators, and alumni at Teachers College. The Columbia Law School Brazilian Association (CLS Brazil) is a graduate student–led organization founded in 2016 to promote academic, professional, and cultural engagement between Brazil and the United States within the Columbia community. CLS Brazil seeks to strengthen the relationship between Brazil and the United States by promoting knowledge of Brazil’s legal, business, political, and cultural frameworks. CLS Brazil's purpose goes beyond the academic environment: they aim to foster meaningful exchanges between academia and the market as a driver of social and economic development. Through lunch talks, panels, workshops, social events, and an annual “CLS Brazil Forum,” they create opportunities for dialogue, networking, and practical insights on topics related to Brazil.

The Columbia Hispanic Pre-Law Society (HPLS) was founded in 2024 and is on a mission to create and disseminate law resources, information, and professional development experiences for undergraduate Hispanic students. Through mentorship and skill-building opportunities, HPLS seeks to support students in their academic and career pursuits within the legal field. They are committed to increasing the 5% of Latine attorneys, un día a la vez.

Latin America Business Association (LABA) at the Business School 

LABA’s plan is to promote the culture and businesses of Latin America at Columbia’s Business School. They organize an annual conference and support students who want to work in Latin America by contacting and promoting companies from the region as well as latinos that want to work in the US. But they don't forget their fun side! LABA celebrates two LABA parties a year (approximately 300-400 attendees) and two LABAsados, where they share their passion for partying, dancing, and eating.

Latin American Student Association (LASA) at the School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA) 

LASA is a group of graduate students interested in analyzing current economic, political and social issues in the region, promoting its culture and enhancing opportunities for future cooperation. The members of LASA are future leaders who attend SIPA. The association is aimed at fostering constant interaction with academic, private and public organizations interested in Latin American and Latin@ affairs. Their mission is to provide a platform for discussion and collaboration regarding national, regional and international public affairs issues of Latin American, and share the broad and diverse various cultural expressions that represent the region. Latine Professional Education Network (LPEN)

The Latine Professional Education Network (LPEN) is an undergraduate organization focused on professional development, mentorship, and career access for Latine students at Columbia University. LPEN aims to bridge gaps in professional access by providing Latine students with mentorship, career resources, and networking opportunities across fields including healthcare, law, business, academia, and public service. Through panels, workshops, and alumni engagement, it supports students in navigating professional spaces while honoring their cultural identities.

The Student Organization of Latines (SOL) is an undergraduate student group and umbrella organization at Columbia University founded to build community, celebrate Latine culture, and advocate for Latine students on campus. SOL serves as a cultural, social, and advocacy-based organization that uplifts Latine voices at Columbia. It hosts cultural showcases, social events, and community-building initiatives that foster belonging and solidarity. Its goal is to create inclusive spaces that celebrate Latine identities while supporting students academically, socially, and culturally.
