A panel discussion will explore how contemporary Mexican film is presented, distributed, and received in the United States. These questions will be addressed by Carlos Gutierrez, Executive Director of Cinema Tropical, an organization dedicated to the distribution and promotion of Latin American cinema. The conversation includes the participation of Fernando Frias de la Parra, as a special focus will be given to his 2019 film "I'm no longer here" - selected as the Mexican entry for Best International Feature at the 93rd Academy Awards. The conversation will be led by Professor Claudio Lomnitz, Director of the Center for Mexican Studies at Columbia University, and Ana Oropeza, Program Assistant at the Center for Mexican Studies, and current student at the School of the Arts in the University.
