The combination of inequality and institutional weakness contributed to make Latin American the epicenter of the pandemic. Yet, social inequality and political crises preceded its arrival. What are the consequences of Covid19 on both inequality and social policy innovation? What is the impact of the pandemic on already weak institutions and political regimes, which were already taking different trajectories?

Dr. Nora Lustig, Professor of Latin American Economics at Tulane University, and Dr. Steven Levitsky, Professor of Government and Director of the David Rockefeller Center for Latin American Studies at Harvard University will answer these questions and expound on their inter-connections to help us think of what comes next for Latin America.

Dr. Maria Victoria Murillo, Professor of Political Science and Director of ILAS, will be moderating the event.
