In 2020 the Center for Mexican Studies at Columbia University formed the “Buscadoras” Research Unit, whose purpose is to gather a group of volunteer students interested in performing research to support the relatives of the disappeared people in Mexico. During its first months of existence, our research unit has collaborated closely with the organization “Regresando a Casa Morelos.” This partnership has made us aware of the importance of knowing better the work that other organizations with more experience are doing regarding forced disappearance in Mexico. Beyond our particular experience, it became apparent that it would be substantially valuable to socialize the work of other institutions dedicated to the documentation, study, and dissemination of this important issue, in order to strengthen inter-institutional ties and enhance collaboration.
The objective of this seminar is to create a space for networking sessions between expert organizations on the subject. During the event, each organization will present an overview of their work, so that each participant can better understand their activities and objectives. And hence, facilitate the cooperation among all participants and the consolidation of new goals and purposes in this sensitive area.
