The Department of History, Department of Latin American and Iberian Cultures, and the Institute of Latin American Studies/ Center for Brazilian Studies at Columbia University present:

How have those acting in the political sphere in contemporary Brazil used - and abused - the study of the past? And how have professional historians sought to intervene in politics? On the eve of Brazil’s momentous presidential election, please join us for this roundtable discussion featuring:

  • Sidney Chalhoub, Professor of History and of African and African American Studies, Harvard University

  • Henrique Espada Lima, Associate Professor of History, Federal University of Santa Catarina (Brazil)
