This event will feature a conversation with Dallas based artist Francisco Moreno, centering on issues of cultural identity and on the intersectionality of different artistic media. The event is meant to introduce audience members to the work of Moreno as well as to use select works as visual tools to critically engage with the question, “What does it mean to be Mexican-American?” The event, however, does not seek to answer this question for that is truly an ever-evolving collaborative task.

The program will involve a discussion of recent developments in Moreno’s career and his background as a Mexican-American. The conversation will then shift to a presentation of a series of specific works that address the themes of cultural or national identity. We will examine such topics as Mexican popular culture, so-called art historical “traditions,” different approaches to artistic media, the role of collaboration, and social commentary. The event will conclude with a Q&A session with the audience.
