Screening of “La Salsa Vive” + Q&A with Director and Producer

November 19, 2025
6:30 PM - 8:00 PM
America/New_York
Milbank Hall, 3009 Broadway, New York, NY 10027 405

Join us for a screening of the documentary La Salsa Vive (2025) followed by a Q&A with director Juan Carvajal, co-producer Juan Velásquez, and musician Henry Fiol.

La Salsa Vive is a vibrant cinematic exploration tracing the roots of salsa from New York's lively streets to Cali, Colombia, now the global salsa capital. The film captures the vibrancy and resilience of Latinxs through the lens of salsa––a multi-genre musical expression that embodies the socio-cultural history of Afro-Caribbean, African American, and Latin American communities. La Salsa Vive offers an invaluable visual and narrative exploration of how music serves as a unifying force and a form of cultural expression across borders.

This event is organized by Dr. Juan Pablo Jiménez Caicedo, Senior Lecturer (LAIC) and Dr. María Eugenia Lozano, Senior Lecturer (Barnard College).
