Brazil Seminar: Secular Stagnation Followed by Near-Miraculous Growth?
Speaker: Edmar Bacha, Founding Partner and Director of the Institute for Economic Policy Studies/Casa das Garças, and Former President of the Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES)
Date and time: March 1st, 12:00pm
International Affairs Building, Room IAB 802
Brazil Seminar is a practicum designed to discuss contemporary Brazil's major economic, political, and social problems with leading analysts, activists, business leaders, and public figures. The seminar is unusual in its reliance upon a stream of outside speakers rather than on a fixed syllabus and set of lectures by the instructor only. Former participants include cabinet members, senior representatives of international organizations, academics, civil society activists, and other world-class experts.
We will primarily focus on economic and financial issues while addressing social and political factors during the spring term. We also prioritize a practitioner’s perspective, using Brazil as a reference to discuss challenges that developing nations face in their development path.
This event will be live-streamed on the ILAS Youtube page.
