OUR ACADEMIC MISSION
To stimulate research and debate, create public programs, organize academic courses, support students, and engage visiting scholars
Established in 2001, the Lemann Center for Brazilian Studies (LCBS) fosters collaboration between the Columbia University community and Brazilian scholars and institutions. LCBS works closely with the Columbia University Global Center in Rio de Janeiro, supports Columbia faculty research focused on Brazil. Our mission is to stimulate research and scholarly debate, create public programs, organize academic courses, support students, and engage visiting scholars on both the historical and contemporary dimensions of Brazil.
Recently, the Global Center in Rio de Janeiro published a report on Columbia–Brazil history, featuring articles by Columbia students about the university's longstanding relationships with Brazil and Brazilian and Brazilianist scholars.
Support the Center
The Lemann Center for Brazilian Studies and its initiatives are made possible by the generosity of our donors. We are especially grateful to Brazilian entrepreneur Jorge Paulo Lemann and the Lemann Foundation for their dedication and support of Brazilian studies at Columbia.
