You are invited to join us on Friday, November 20! This panel will commemorate Brazilian Black Awareness Day on Nov. 20 and will feature two Brazilian guest speakers, Letícia Nascimento and Sidnei Nogueira (Pai Sidnei), who will discuss activism and resistance in 2020 from the perspectives of the Black transfeminist movement and Afro-Brazilian religious communities.

This event inaugurates the series Afro-Américas in Dialogue, launched and led by ILAS. Through interdisciplinary panel discussions and guest lectures, this seminar series explores multiple aspects of racial inequality and exclusion/inclusion of Afro-descendant populations in the Americas, including, but not limited to, topics such as health disparities, education, criminal justice, economic precarity, dispossession, cultural policy and intolerance, political agency, and social movements.

Speakers:

Letícia Nascimento, Professor of Pedagogy at the Federal University of Piauí;
Sidnei Nogueira (Pai Sidnei), PhD in Semiotics and General Linguistics at the University of São Paulo, Bàbálórisà.
