Brazil Seminar: The Russia-Ukraine War and Its Impact on the Brazilian and World Economy

Guest Speaker: Otaviano Canuto, Nonresident Senior Fellow, Brookings Institution, and former Vice President and Head of Network, World Bank.

March 30th, 6:10 pm

Livestream via ILAS Youtube.

The Brazil Seminar is a practicum, designed to discuss major economic, political, and social problems of contemporary Brazil with leading analysts, activists, business leaders, and public figures. The seminar is unusual in its reliance upon a stream of outside speakers rather than on a fixed syllabus and set of lectures by the instructor only. Former participants include cabinet members, senior representatives of international organizations, academics, civil society activists, and other world-class experts.

During the spring term, we will primarily focus on economic and financial issues, while also

addressing social and political factors. We also prioritize a practitioner’s perspective, using Brazil as a reference to discuss challenges that developing nations face in their development path.

The seminar welcomes those who may be learning about Brazil for the first time as well as those who are already well acquainted with its people, society, and culture and wish to delve deeper into particular research areas.
