The names of new members of El Colegio Nacional were announced, after the ordinary session of its Council took place, which is held on the first Monday of each month. The virologist Susana López Charretón, the architect Felipe Leal and social anthropologist Claudio Lomnitz were chosen as new members of the institution, according to the collegiate Julia Carabias Lillo, president of the Colegio Nacional.

"The important and valuable trajectory of the three will contribute new points of view to the dialogue between the current members, promote reflection, and undoubtedly enrich our outreach program," said the Lillo. She recognized that the experience of the new members: Susana López Charretón from the study of viruses; of Felipe Leal from architecture and heritage conservation, as well as Claudio Lomnitz from social anthropology, "will give a complementary perspective of current approaches to health sciences, social sciences, art and humanities, areas of knowledge that are promoted by El Colegio Nacional ”.

The new members came after the deaths of Jesús Kumate (1924-2018), Fernando del Paso (1935-2018) and Miguel León-Portilla (1926-2019), which occurred in recent years, who achieved wide recognition in their areas of research and study, as well as numerous distinctions in their professional careers.

With the new incorporations, El Colegio Nacional has added 108 outstanding intellectuals in various disciplines since its foundation, more than 75 years ago, with the aim of spreading knowledge to all, for free.
